Summary

The Summary subtab provides information about existing print queues and the files that have been sent to them.Queue status icons lists the types of possible queues and shows the icons associated with each.

Queue status icons

Here’s what the icons represent:

 

Icon	What it represents
	This represents a print spooler accepting print jobs from clients via Appletalks’s PAP.
	This icon represents a queue for an AppleTalk printer on the network.
	This icon represents a printer class queue. When imaging devices are placed together in a class, the server sends the job to the first of the devices that is available. This automatically helps to balance the load for devices.
	This icon represents a printer queue that Xinet can’t identify.
	This icon represents a hold queue. When a user directs jobs to a hold queue, they will be held there for a period of time specified by the system administrator. After the specified period of time has elapsed, the job will be automatically removed. You may move jobs from hold queues to other queues for processing.
	This icon represents a “success” queue; for example., a queue where requests which have been processed without errors will wait. It is used in combination with hold and print to file or screen queues.
	This icon represents a “failure” queue; for example., a queue where requests that have errors in them will wait. It is used in combination with hold and print to file or screen queues and is useful when you want to look at and resolve errors.
	This icon represents preview queues which direct processed files to a screen previewer rather than a physical imaging device.
	This print-to-file icon represents queues where the PostScript is written to a file.
	Represents a queue which produces various PDF-format files.
	Represents a queue which produces various TIFF-format files.
	Represents a queue which produces EPS- format files.
	Represents a PDF-IR (PDF Image Replacement) queue where the data stream is never converted to PostScript.
	Represents a hot folder which submits files to a print queue for processing.
	This icon represents a remote print queue, for example., one where the server sends the request to another workstation for lp(1) or lpr(1) spooling.
	This is a print queue that uses the BSD Unix lpr(1B) utility for print requests
	This is a print queue that uses the Windows SMB protocol for print requests.
	This is a print queue that uses the Apple Bonjour protocol for communication.
	This icon appears in the job window when the queue has been stopped.
	This tells you that a queue is currently accepting new jobs. It toggles to Queue Stopped. When changing its setting you must specify how the queue should handle any job currently in process. Queues can stop: • After the current job finishes • Immediately cancelling the current job (and deleting it) or • First preserving the current job
	Appears as the cursor hovers over a stopped queue, indicating that clicking on the option will start the queue.
	Appears as the cursor hovers over an active queue, indicating that clicking on the option will stop the queue.
	Appears temporarily during the waiting period between the time when an administrator requests that a spooler stop or restart and that spooler actually fulfills the request.
	When spinning, means that a request is in progress but not yet finished. It will disappear when Xinet completely fulfills the request.

 

Using the Queue Status Summary Page

The Queue Status, Summary page offers shortcuts to further information about jobs and queues:

•	Clicking on the name of a Hot Folder will show you current contents of that folder. (A Back button returns you to the full Summary.)

•	Clicking on any Print Queue name will automatically open its Pending Jobs page.

•	Clicking on the icon next to any Print Queue name will automatically open its Completed Job Logs page.

•	Clicking on the Destination for any queue that writes information to a folder or directory will show the current contents of that repository. (A Back button returns you to the full Summary.)

•	Clicking a green Queue Control icon will allow you to stop a queue, presenting some options about what to do if a job is currently printing.

•	Clicking on a red Queue Control icon will allow you to restart a queue that has been stopped.
