The Xinet Release Notes change every release because they describe the resolved, limitations, and known issues within the Xinet release. This update replaces the previous version of this document.

What’s New Highlights

Now Supported:

End-of-Life Announcements

•	Minimum supported browsers: Safari version 10, Chrome version 59, Firefox version 45 ESR.

•	Updates for Xinet server platform: Xinet 19.1.X will be the last version of Xinet to support OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion, OS X 10.9 Mavericks, Linux 6.0 through 6.4 (RHEL and CentOS).

•	Updates for support Mac clients: Xinet 19.1.X will be the last version of Xinet to support OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion and OS X 10.9 Mavericks as a client.

•	Xinet 19 will be the last Xinet version to support OpenOffice.

•	Adobe client software updates: Xinet 19.1.X will be the last version to support Adobe Creative Suite 6 (CS6) (as Adobe has put CS6 in limited support mode and ended support for CS6 in March, 2017) and Adobe Creative Cloud (CC) 2013.

•	We have removed the following legacy code from our distribution: AppleTalk, FlashNet, WebNative Archive, Dongle support (Sentinel)

•	LibreOffice 4.x is no longer supported for all functionality. (See XIN-7359, XIN-7542 for details.)

XIN-7896 (New for 19.1.2c)	Client Installer	The client installer no longer checks Macintosh systems to verify if the user has moved the Xinet Pilot application from its original location.This feature was causing unpredictable results.   If you moved the application file to a different location (not recommended), you will need to delete that older file yourself. XIN-5090	Client Installer, Pilot UI	Created a separate downloadable Macintosh app for Xinet Pilot so that it can be downloaded and drag/dropped into the OS X Applications folder. For Pilot installation details, go to the Installation section in these release notes.	XIN-4385
XIN-6157	Pilot UI	For Mac systems, improved the interface when users download files in Pilot. After a successful download, a notification panel appears for a set time with a message that the download is complete, with the file name and a Reveal button to navigate to the file. This notification panel is provided when files are downloaded either from the basket or via drag and drop to the Finder (but not to Adobe InDesign). Users can turn it off in the Notifications section of their System Preferences.	XIN-6068, XIN-6075
XIN-6428	Portal Marquee UI	We now provide a limit for the number of linked files shown when users preview a document through the "linked" tab in Portal or the "containing" tab in the fileinfo modal in Marquee. This new limit prevents memory issues and long loading times when documents have a large number of linked files. This limit is controlled by a new Portal server setting, accessible from Xinet administration, at Portal tab > Edit > Server Details > Server Defaults page > Display Options section. The setting is called "Max number of Linked or Contained files," in the Xinet administration interface, and lets the administrator change the limit on the number of linked files from the default value of 100. The config.inc.php keyword for this setting is LINKED_FILES_MAX. Note that if users try to view documents with linked files greater in number than the value of this setting, they will not be able to see all of them. If users need to see more, you can increase the setting value (but be aware that it will have an effect on loading times).
XIN-6642	Client Installer	The application is always installed in the /Applications folder and is called Xinet Pilot.app. (It used to be at /Applications/Xinet Software/Xinet Pilot.app. This folder and file is removed by the Xinet 19.1.2 installer if it is empty.).	XIN-7896
XIN-6984	Raw Camera Files	Added support for decoding raw digital photos taken by Canon 5D Mark IV cameras (5D MkIV format).	XIN-7677, XIN-769
XIN-7580	Annotator ID, Drag and Drop ID, Picture Wrangler	We have added support for Adobe Creative Cloud (CC) 2018. The Xinet Adobe CC 2018 plug-ins for Windows clients will be accessible from the Adobe Add-Ons Store, for both 32- and 64-bit InDesign CC 2018. These plug-ins are Annotator ID CC 2018 and Xinet Metadata CC 2018. OS X Adobe plug-ins continue to be distributed with the Xinet Installer. These plug-ins are Annotator ID CC 2018, Xinet Metadata CC 2018, Picture Wrangler ID CC 2018, and Xinet Support ID CC 2018.	XIN-7600, XIN-7606, XIN-7807
XIN-7644	Portal Marquee UI	For Marquee/Pilot, a warning message is now provided when users attempt to move or copy a file that has an empty file name.
XIN-7656	Portal Marquee UI	Annotation is now available for supported movie formats when they have audio tracks.
XIN-7665	SMB2	Fixed a compatibility issue with the Xinet SMB module running on Linux 7.3 and 7.4.
XIN-7683	Pilot UI	For Pilot, enabled drag and drop using For Placement Only (FPO) workflow when only the FPO volume is mounted. If only the FPO volume is mounted, then any assets dragged from Pilot will link the FPO. If both volumes are mounted, the High Resolution (HR) version is used instead. When neither is mounted, any functionality that requires high resolution images (for example, the contextual menu "Reveal High") triggers an attempt to mount the HR volume. After this volume is mounted, the HR images are used for drag and drop.	XIN-7543
XIN-7695	OPI	Fixed a problem with the rendering of previews for Illustrator or other files that have spot channels when placing For Placement Only (FPO) images. This problem was caused by a bug between OPI and the PDF interpreter, and was fixed by avoiding sending the ICC profile into conversion for any PDF or EPSF images that contain a spot color. (OPI is a technology that allows the embedding of low-resolution versions of images in a file.)
XIN-7713	Solr Search, Venture	The third-party Java software changed the syntax of its version numbering from version 1.8 to the next version, “9”, and this caused an issue with the Solr search component in Xinet. This issue has been addressed in this release, and JDK 9 is now supported.
XIN-7759	Administration, Portal Marquee UI, WebNative	The Safari 11 browser is now supported for all Xinet components (Admin, Portal, Pilot), on macOS 10.12 (Sierra).	XIN-7529
XIN-7767	GUI	The admin GUI now shows "PM" for times between noon and 12:59 pm (rather than wrongly showing "AM") for the database table check Summary page.
XIN-7791	WebNative	For WebNative, improved display of European 24-hour time values so that the "Today" button shows "12:00" (noon) rather than "00:00" (midnight), to match the actual default value.
XIN-7801	Solr Search	Updated the Solr search to handle spaces in filenames. For example, My File.jpg
XIN-7833	Pilot UI	Fixed an issue when uploading files from Windows Pilot 3.0.1.

Ticket	Component	Issue
XIN-3001	Xinet Portal	Legacy migrated sites to Portal 4.6 do not show folders in the Portal main area unless the site is saved. This occurs when the site option Display folder in the main area is selected.   Workaround: Open the Administration view and save the Portal Site settings in the Portal tab.
XIN-3061	Pilot UI	Saved search queries for Portal users, using the default search engine (not Solr Search), are not displaying the results from the saved path.
XIN-3885	Portal UI	Advanced Search Engine cannot load saved "File/Folder is" searches.
XIN-3938	Portal PHP, WebNative	When uploading a file whose name contains double quotes ("), the double quotes are converted to the percent-encoded “ %22 ”.
XIN-4756	Portal Marquee UI	Custom Image Order does not return to the Details view.
XIN-4771	AppleShare	Previews are slow to display on Mavericks and Yosemite client machines due to file sharing performance connection problems.   Workaround: Option 1: Turn off previews in the Finder. Option 2: Try setting the “Maximum size of the FPO (in Kilobytes)" in the preview settings to something smaller, like 4000 instead of the default 7168. If they're making EPS FPOs and don’t need images in their "thin" output, you could turn on the "Omit images (include a gray Bounding Box only)" option.
XIN-4842	Portal Marquee UI	Long file names without any place to break exceed space in File Manager windows and File Manager Tooltips.
XIN-4914	Xinet Contextual Menu Plugin	To support Firefox 45.2 ESR on OS X and later, you need to enable Support Contextual Menu Plugins and Add-ons: 1. Type or paste "about:config" in the address bar and press Enter or Return. 2. Click the button promising to be careful. 3. In the search box above the list, search for: {{xpinstall.signature}} 4. If the xpinstall.signatures.required preference is bolded and the user set to true, double-click it to switch it to false.
XIN-5331	Pilot UI installation	When upgrading to version 18.1 or above, Pilot preferences are overwritten.   Workaround: Pilot users must re-enter the Xinet Pilot URL by typing the IP address or FQDN of the Portal server, followed by /PORTAL/pilot. For more information, see “Launching Xinet Pilot” in the Xinet Client Guide.
XIN-5419	Pilot UI, Portal Marquee UI	Users do not have the ability to set their own download preferences.
XIN-5806	Portal Marquee UI, Portal PHP	Users do not have the option to restore linked file preview highlighting.
XIN-5835	Portal Marquee UI	Though a folder is highlighted in grey when you hover over it, you must click on the name of the folder to browse to it.
XIN-6494	Portal Marquee UI	In Marquee, in File Manager > Copy, if you create a new folder, it will exit after creating that folder and will not let you continue on to copy the file into that folder.
XIN-6495	Portal Marquee UI	In Marquee, in File Manager > Copy, you cannot create folders in any place other than the current location (even though it lets you select other folders).
XIN-6802	Plug-ins	PictureWrangler ID for Adobe InDesign CS6 requires AFP mounts and does not work over SMB.
XIN-6980	Business Rule Filters, WebNative	When adding or editing a date field in a filter, you need to type in the whole date as text (rather than selecting from drop down menus).
XIN-6981	Business Rule Filters, WebNative	When specifying a Pre-requisite Path in a filter, you need to type in the full path (rather than selecting folders from dropdowns).
XIN-6997	Drag and Drop ID	Drag and drop from Safari requires "Allow JavaScript from Apple Events" in the "Develop" menu to be enabled for downloaded files.
XIN-7489	Office File Support	Text is not rendering in previews of presentation files from Apple Keynote software, version 6 and later. (The text renders fine for Keynote version 5 and earlier.)
XIN-7531	Xinet Contextual Menu Plugin	The Xinet Contextual Menu (CM) may fail to install for the following OS X configurations: - Safari 9 browsers - Safari 10 on OS X 10.10 Yosemite This is a known Mac issue where clicking on the "Trust" button sometimes dismisses the dialog without installing the extension. This issue does not occur with Safari 10 on newer OS X systems (OS X 10.11 El Capitan and above.
XIN-7562	Pilot UI	Custom ID.applescript placement scripts on the server are no longer supported by the Mac version of Xinet Pilot.

Installation Instructions

Set Up File Sharing

SMB file sharing will automatically be installed with the Xinet installers for the Linux platform as long as the appropriate samba packages are installed and up to date.

Prior to installing Xinet, run:

# yum install samba

To enable SMB access:

For new Xinet users:

1.	Create a system user for any new users.

2.	Create a Xinet user in the Admin GUI for new users. This will automatically create the SMB user and password if you already created a system user.

3.	Enable the "Can access SMB Volumes" for users.

For existing Xinet users:

1.	Create a system user for any new users. Many users may already have this access, because it was necessary for AFP access.

2.	Enable the "Can access SMB Volumes" for users. This will require a password change.

Xinet installers are available online. Visit www.northplains.com and click Partner Portal at the bottom of the page to locate the installer appropriate for your platform.

Install Pilot on Windows

To install the updated Windows Pilot on Windows client machines:

1.	Ensure the Administrator has updated Xinet server with this release.

2.	From the client machine, connect to the Xinet Server as the user "macfiles".

3.	Download the file XinetPilotInstaller.exe.

4.	Double-click on the XinetPilotInstaller.exe.

Install Pilot on Macintosh

The Xinet Pilot application has been updated for Xinet 19.1.2, and now requires OS X Yosemite (10.10) or above, including macOS Sierra (10.12).

This application, when installed, is now in the /Applications folder and is called Xinet Pilot.app. (It used to be at /Applications/Xinet Software/Xinet Pilot.app). The /Applications/Xinet Software folder will be removed by the Xinet 19.1.2 installer if it is empty.

Important Notice! New for 19.1.2c If you are installing this software, use the Xinet Client installer shipped on December 1, 2017, from one of the following installer packages (note the "c" after the version number): Xinet-19.1.2c-LINUX6.5-7-64.tar Xinet-19.1.2c-OSX-10.8-10.11.tar If you have already installed the Mac client application using the previous 19.1.2 installer, a patch is available. Download and run the client installer, Xinet Client-19.1.2-patch.mpkg. Note: This new installer will install the application in the /Applications folder. If you moved the application file to a different location (not recommended), you will need to delete that older file yourself.
