Administration Guide : Setting up Xinet Volumes : Updating previews

Updating previews
After you change preview options for a volume, you will end up on the Update Previews page automatically. Xinet will pre-select the kinds of previews it thinks need to be rebuilt, based on what preview options you changed. If you Cancel the page rather than selecting the Update Previews option, any FPOs made before the options changed will stay as they were unless/until you come back to this page and rebuild them.
To update Xinet previews:
1.
Click on the Volumes/Users, System Volumes, Update Previews tab, if it has not already been selected for you.
2.
Select a volume from the pop-up list. You’ll see an interface similar to Figure 0-7 where you can review which previews you might update. Please note that updating previews can cause high server load for a significant length of time.

3.
FPO views, in one of the following ways:
All FPOs on the selected volume
EPS-format FPOs only
Image files without FPOs only
Update Location only
This option updates the location information used during OPI replacement that is stored inside of each FPO, without remaking the preview itself. (See dtrebuild(1) - locfpo for details.) You may want to use this option when files have been moved from another server or after files have been moved using normal Unix commands (which Xinet doesn’t recommend).
Update small and large Web previews
This will update the Web previews (described on
page 261) for the selected volume.
Update PICT previews
This will update PICT previews on the selected volume. See
page 267 for a discussion about PICT previews.
Rebuild Office document previews (if enabled)
This option only appears if you have installed software from Openoffice.org.
Rebuild Video previews (if enabled)
This option only appears on servers where the Video Module for Xinet has been installed.
Rebuild HTML document previews (if Video is enabled)
This option only appears on servers where the Video Module for Xinet has been installed.
Scan all volumes that have FPO and/or Web views
Although you selected a volume in Step 2., enabling this option will cause Xinet to rebuild previews for all volumes on the system.
Limit scan to subfolder
After you activate this option, you’ll be able to select a subfolder within your volume using a pop-up list.
4.
Use the Update Previews button once you are satisfied with your settings. You will be asked to confirm that you really want to update previews at this time.
