Release Notes Xinet 19.0
Product: Xinet Version:19.0
Contents:
Important Note about Upgrading to Xinet 19
Xinet 19 ships with a new version of Solr (Solr 6.2.1) to improve stability and performance. This new version requires your Solr search index to be reindexed, and to ensure this happens the Xinet19 installer automatically deletes the old Solr index, which would no longer be functional due to incompatibilities in data formats between Solr versions. You will need to reindex your Solr index database. This may take some time to complete, depending on the size of your Xinet environment. Please be aware that Java 1.8 is required to run Solr 6.2.1. If you are not already running Java 1.8, we recommend upgrading to this version prior to the Xinet installation.
What’s New
In this major release we have included a number of significant improvements, which are highlighted below. For a complete list of added features and fixed bugs, please refer to the Resolved Issues section.
Seamless third party integration via SAM2.0 based Single Sign On
We provide a smoother user experience; higher security and much easier integration with Third Party software with SAML2.0 based Single Sign On (SSO) support.
With this new feature, users who are logged in to one application (a service provider) and authenticated by a Third Party Identity Provider are “automatically” signed in to other applications, regardless of platform, technology or domain—without being prompted to log in again. Xinet now acts as a service provider in a federated authentication environment.
SMB2 support for filesharing with modern Mac clients
Modern Mac clients can now connect to Xinet servers via Apple’s implementation of the SMB protocol (SMB2/SMBX).
We are installing Xinet modules into existing Samba software available on RedHat and CentOS Linux. As a result, we require Samba 4.4 and 4.2, which are the standard versions on RedHat and CentOS 7.x and Samba 3.6 for RedHat 6.x and CentOS 6.x, (Samba 4.2 is also supported).
We provide a smooth transition path to SMB2 and allow AFP connections as well as SMB2 connections until AFP is discontinued by Apple. All customers with a current maintenance contract can upgrade to Xinet 19 and will automatically be enabled to use additional named SMB users. To simplify our user packs, we have mapped your existing licenses with the maximum number of AFP users in the range of AFP users you already had, and in addition provide double that number of SMB users. This new mapping is shown in the chart below.

Example:
A customer with a 32-AFP users licence upgrades to Xinet 19. The new licence will allow 50 concurrent AFP sessions, and optionally 100 users can be enabled to connect via SMB2.
New Browsing Experience
Usability Enhancements
We have upgraded our Solr implementation to the latest Solr release version 6.2.1 and are expecting to see performance and stability improvements.
IMPORTANT!! Please be aware that Java 1.8 is required to run Solr 6.2.1. If you are not already running Java 1.8, we recommend upgrading to this version prior to the Xinet installation.
Interoperability Updates
End-of-life Announcements
To reflect the changes below, we have updated our Xinet EOL Life Letter, available in the Documentation section in the Download area of the Xinet Portal on our website. We have also updated our Xinet Product Support Grid document, available in the Documentation section in the Download area of the Xinet Portal on our website.

Adobe client software updates: Xinet 19 will be the last version to support Adobe Creative Suite 6 (as Adobe has put CS6 in limited support mode and will end support for CS6 in March, 2017) and Adobe Creative Cloud (CC) 2013.
PictureWrangler for Adobe InDesign CS6 requires AFP mounts and does not work over SMB.
Supported* Web Browsers
* Supported means a) Drag and drop placement of images from Xinet Pilot and any of the listed browsers into an Adobe InDesign document. B) Xinet contextual menu allows revealing and opening items directly from a browser window.
Anything outside the following list is not supported:
Firefox 45 ESR for OS X
Note: Firefox 45 ESR is expected to work with the following workaround: via the Firefox Configuration Editor (about:config page), set xpinstall.signatures.required to false.
Note: Because of limitations, we have decided to stop support for future Firefox browsers.
We do not support drag and drop placement or Xinet CM for the following browsers, but our software is tested and verified to run in these browsers on the Windows platform.
