Administration Guide : Installing Xinet : Install Xinet Server on a Macintosh Server (first time or upgrade)

Install Xinet Server on a Macintosh Server (first time or upgrade)
Use these instructions if you are installing the Administration software for the first time or if you are upgrading to a newer version on a Macintosh server.
Note: Before completing an upgrade, back up your database on the Xinet Server. For more information, see Backing up and restoring data.
Important: Installing Xinet on OS X 10.11 El Capitan
Installing Xinet on El Capitan no longer works due to Apple's System Integrity Protection (SIP) that prevents writing to any low level path like /usr. To get around this, you need to disable SIP.
Warning: The point of SIP is to prevent malware and other unwanted modifications into system files. Consider whether or not you want to dispense with this protection.
For the following to work, you must have a proper and up to date Recovery partition on your boot drive. While that should be a given, it’s possible to clone a startup volume without Recovery installed. From the Utilities menu in Recovery select Terminal. Use the Terminal in Recovery to enter the SIP-disabling command.
Follow these steps to disable SIP:
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.
After you install the Xinet software (see next section), re-enable SIP by following the above steps, but using the command “csrutil enable” instead.
